New Chief of Party Kartlos Kankadze
We are pleased to introduce, Dr. Kartlos Kankadze, our new chief of party for the USAID Strengthening TB Control in Ukraine project. Dr. Kankadze is a program manager and medical practitioner with 19 years of experience in health program management and clinical practice in TB, HIV, infectious diseases, and reproductive health in Eastern Europe.
As chief of party for the USAID Healthy Women in Georgia program, Dr. Kankadze piloted and scaled up a Supportive Supervision Program in three regions of Georgia, improving the quality of services among a regional network of health facilities. Dr. Kankadze strengthened Centers of Excellence at Georgian hospitals and primary health care facilities to provide evidenced-based health care services. As head of the Division of Medical Technologies with the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs in Georgia, Dr. Kankadze led donor coordination and management to achieve improved TB services through the engagement of UNICEF in the procurement of laboratory equipment, collaboration with the Swedish International Development Agency to train TB practitioners, and support to the Center for Disease Control and the World Bank for assistance in the establishment of a TB surveillance system. Additionally, Dr. Kankadze worked to initiate the National Tuberculosis Program in Georgia.
Dr. Kankadze fluently speaks Russian and English, and has basic knowledge of Ukrainian. We are looking forward to have Dr. Kankadze’s experience and management skills implemented to continue the success of the USAID Strengthening Tuberculosis Control in Ukraine project.
We also take this opportunity to thank Olena Kheylo for her leadership and invaluable personal contribution to the project achievements. Her commitment to the sustainable changes to control tuberculosis in Ukraine, her knowledge and support in achieving the project’s goals helped to shape an ambitious work plan for the project and make significant progress in our performance. We are happy that Olena continues her work for the project.
