TB IC Expert Group within the State Sanitary and Epidemiology Service is officially launched
On July 22, 2013, the State Sanitary and Epidemiology Service (SES) issued Order #145, which launched the National Group of Experts on TB Infection Control (TB IC), a project initiated and supported by the USAID Strengthening Tuberculosis Control in Ukraine project. The formation of this expert group brought together representatives from the national SES and regional SES.
The primary objective of The National TB IC Expert Group is to promote the implementation of up-to-date TB IC measures across Ukraine’s network of TB service facilities. This expert group will be able to influence regional policy and provide support to regional-level SES coordinators in the 10 project regions.
The specific objectives of The TB IC Expert Group are:
- Assessing TB IC measures in TB medical facilities (throughout Ukraine, including 10 USAID-supported oblasts) and providing recommendations on the improvement of administrative, environmental and personal protective measures.
- Providing on-the-job training and mentoring for SES representatives and medical staff to improve TB IC practices and skills.
- Monitoring the implementation of recommendations of the National TB IC group and providing ongoing technical assistance for the implementation TB IC best practices.
In order to meet these goals, the TB IC Expert group will provide technical support to SES local staff to evaluate TB IC measures in local health facilities, provide risk assessment on TB transmission in local medical facilities, analyze TB IC data, and support TB facilities in TB IC plan revisions.
