USAID STbCU project developed a new manual on TB management: Tuberculosis. Charts and Visuals for Health Professionals Working at the Second and Third Healthcare Level. The charts are composed based on the national clinical protocols.The publication is designed as a notepad, with b/w pages for notes and colored pages with charts on TB case management.

The International HIV/AIDS Alliance Ukraine has presented a video on “Tuberculosis Infection Control”. The video was created within the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria grant, under the” Investments for exposure to tuberculosis and HIV infection”

The International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine has developed a 6-minute video on TB treatment. The video was created within the grant by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria under the “Investing in impact on the epidemic of TB and HIV”. The purpose of the video is to debunk persistent myths about TB treatment. The video is recommended for use by non-governmental organizations and will be distributed in Eastern Europe and Central Asia as part of the information campaign “Dissemination of evidence-based knowledge on TB in the Region.”

CF International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine developed a publication “Promoting adherence to tuberculosis treatment in clients of harm reduction programs.”

Best practices: example local protocol on TB/HIV co-infection

In response to requests from health professionals working at different levels of health care in the Project-supported regions, the project publishes sample local protocol of care for TB/HIV co-infected patients. This local protocol was developed by Kupiansk Central Raion Clinic. The project recommends you to further improve your own local protocol by adding indicators that characterize the quality of TB/HIV care. Set of posters on TB,developed by STbCU for medical universities

USAID STbCU project together with the National medical University by O.O.Bohomolets developed a set of posters on TB. The posters will be used by IV and VI year students in medical hight schools in Ukraine. The set includes the following posters: 1. Classification of TB cases. 2. Laboratory Confirmation of TB. 3. Action Plan and M&E indicators to improve TB/HIV services

Both documents were drafted based on recommendations of “TB/HIV Co-Infection Services Gap-Analysis “, implememnted in partnership with the New-jersey Medical School Global Tuberculosis Institute (GTBI) in 2013. The Ukrainian Centre for Socially Dangerous Disease Control recommends two USAID STbCU-developed documents to be implemented by health departments in Kharkiv, Kirovograd, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, and Odessa oblasts, and the Kyiv city.

 

Instructions on sputum collection

Considering requests from our regional partners, USAID STbCU project developed instructions on sputum collection, which contains recommendations to help a patient to collect qualitative biological material for analysis.

Patient Discharge form

Within the grant, issued through the STbCU project to the Ukrainian Red Cross, USAID STbCU published and disseminated to the pilot regions a Patient Disharge form. Except a regular form, which is aproved by the Ministry of health of Ukraine, there is a special annex – perforated sheet with Notes for Patients. From these Notes a patient will get to know why after the intensive phase of TB treatment s/he should continue taking TB drugs under direct supervision, how ss the DOT principle functioning, how to avoid side effects and what are the fundamental principles of infection control to be followed to protect surrounding people from TB.

Training on multidrug-resistant tuberculosis

To increase multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment efficacy rate and build capacity to implement programs for multi-drug resistant/extensively drug resistant tuberculosis, the USAID “Strengthening Tuberculosis (TB) Control in Ukraine” Project developed a five day training for TB doctors.

Patient’s Diary publication

The publication consists of both, text boxes with important TB–related recommendations, and chapters to be filled by a patient. The latter includes “My questions to health worker”, “My next visit to hospital”, “My observations”, “Body weight” and “Body temperature” diagrams, weekly diary, physician’s and patronage nurse’s contacts, assigned treatment regiments, and calendar of screening procedures. 

SES Information Letter on Monitoring Visits 

The letter provides definition of monitoring, presents legal and regulatory framework for conducting monitoring visits, and provides a list of services that can be provided by within SES’s monitoring visits. The Information letter also includes a list of TB infection control criteria.

A series of online courses to introduce and explain parts of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GF)’s new funding model. Each e-learning module is on a particular topic, which may be relevant for Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs), technical assistance providers, technical partners, civil society, governments and others.

Unified Clinical Protocol on TB: questions and answers.

The USAID Strengthening Tuberculosis Control in Ukraine project has started an online discussion of the Unified Protocol on TB Case Management, which was endorced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health in December, 2012.

Training on Sputum Smear Microscopy

The training focuses on sputum smear microscopy and quality control so as to improve the skills of laboratory specialists and increase the overall quality of TB diagnostics.
